Configuring a Tracker

Updated at: Sep 23, 2019 GMT+08:00

Scenarios

You can configure the OBS storage for a created tracker.

You can select whether to transfer recorded traces to an OBS bucket.

After a tracker is configured, new rules take effect immediately.

This section describes how to configure a tracker.

Prerequisites

CTS has been enabled.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the management console.
  2. Click in the upper left corner to select the desired region and project.
  3. Click Service List and choose Management & Deployment > Cloud Trace Service.
  4. Click Trackers in the navigation pane.
  5. Click Configure in the Operation column.
    (1) Configure a management tracker
    • If you select Yes for Transfer Trace to OBS, you can perform the following operations:
      1. Set OBS Bucket Owner to logged-in user or other users.
        NOTE:
        • You can configure OBS Bucket Owner. The default value is Logged-in user.
        • If OBS Bucket Owner is set to Logged-in user, you can select an existing OBS bucket or create an OBS bucket on the Configure Tracker page.
        • If this parameter is set to Other users, you need to enter the name of the bucket to which trace files will be transferred. Make sure that you have the write permission of the bucket and enter a correct bucket name.
      2. Select an existing OBS bucket or create an OBS bucket on the configuration page. CTS automatically attaches dumping policies to the OBS bucket.
        NOTE:

You must select a standard OBS bucket because CTS needs to frequently access the OBS bucket that stores traces.

      3. File Prefix is used to mark a transferred trace file. This field can be customized and automatically added in front of the name of a transferred file, helping you quickly filter out files.
      4. Determine whether to encrypt the trace files stored in the OBS bucket and select a created key.
      5. After enabling Verify Trace File, check whether data in OBS buckets is tampered to ensure integrity of trace files. For details about how to verify file integrity, see Verifying CTS Trace File Integrity.
    • If you select No for Transfer Trace to OBS, you do not need to configure any parameter.

    (2) Configure a data tracker

    • Operation: Configure data operations that need to be recorded in logs.
    • Create OBS Bucket: If this function is enabled, the system automatically creates an OBS bucket with the name you entered. If the function is disabled, you need to select an existing OBS bucket.
    • Retention Period: Select the duration for storing logs to be transferred to the OBS bucket.
    • File Prefix: The prefix is used to mark a transferred trace file. This field can be customized and automatically added in front of the name of a transferred file, helping you quickly filter out files.
  6. Click OK.

After the tracker is configured, you can view its details on the Trackers page.

    NOTE:

Traces recorded by CTS are periodically delivered to the OBS bucket for storage. If you configure an OBS bucket for the tracker, traces generated during the current period (generally several minutes) will be delivered to the configured OBS bucket. For example, if the current period is from 12:00 to 12:05 and you configure an OBS bucket for the tracker at 12:02, traces received from 12:00 to 12:02 will be delivered to the configured OBS bucket for storage at 12:05.
