  • Migration constraints and limitations
Table 2 Constraints and limitations on source servers

    Source Server Type

    Description

    OS

    • Only the operating systems (OSs) included in Table 1 are supported by SMS.
    • Migrations of servers that run multiple OSs are not supported.

    Available disk space

    • For Windows: Migrations will fail in both of the following two scenarios: The partition size is greater than 600 MB, but the available partition space is less than 320 MB. The partition size and the available partition space are less than 600 MB and 40 MB, respectively.
    • For Linux: Migrations will fail if the available root partition space is less than 200 MB.

    File System

    • For Windows: Only NTFS is supported.
    • For Linux: Only ext2, ext3, ext4, VFAT, XFS, and ReiserFS file systems are supported.

    Shared file system

Only files on the local disk are migrated. Files in the shared file system, such as Network File System and Common Internet File System, cannot be migrated.

    Encrypted files

OSs that contain protected folders and encrypted volumes cannot be migrated.

Database and Active Directory Domain (AD DS) application

Server Migration Service (SMS) does not support the AD and multi-node database migration.

    Applications bound to hardware

Migrations of OSs that contain applications bound to hardware are not supported.

    Dynamic disk

In Windows OSs, dynamic disks are migrated as basic disks. After the migration is complete, the destination ECS does not have dynamic disks.

    Servers added to a domain

If a server added to a domain is migrated, the destination ECS must be added to the domain after the migration is complete.
